From Stage to Screen: Introducing FILM to the Hamilton Eisteddfod

Nov 30, 2025 | News from the Committee

The Hamilton Eisteddfod is excited to introduce Film as our newest competition discipline.

Film will join Music, Dance and Speech & Drama at the 2026 event, opening more opportunities to showcase creativity and nurture talent in our region.

Innovation has always been important to us at the Hamilton Eisteddfod! Throughout our history, we’ve introduced new competitions in line with interests of the time. From the piano accordion in the 1960s through to animated movie music in the 2010s, we’re pleased to be able to represent the evolving tastes and technologies of the performing arts, alongside the enduring classics.

In 2026, the Hamilton Eisteddfod will expand beyond on-stage performance into the world of film production, with our eight new film competition sections.

Aspiring filmmakers, directors and actors are encouraged to get together, find a phone or camera and produce a short film that fits into our annual Film Theme. There are opportunities for primary school students through to adults, and we even have sections for films produced with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

In what’s sure to be a delight for audience members and competitors alike, we’ll hold a Film Festival at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre, during the Hamilton Eisteddfod. Films entered into the competition will be screened for all to enjoy, and our Film Adjudicator will present awards to the winners on stage.

We are pleased to introduce this new discipline to the Hamilton Eisteddfod line-up in 2026, and we look forward to discovering the skills, insights and stories that our filmmakers reveal!
