February 2020: A Workshop for Conductors

This February, the City of Hamilton Eisteddfod Inc will be hosting a special event in Hamilton. ‘The Band is the Mirror of the Conductor’ is a one-day workshop for those interested in building their skills as conductors.

The workshop will be presented by experienced conductor Dr Ralph Hultgren AM. Dr Hultgren was the Music Adjudicator at the 2019 Hamilton Eisteddfod, and we are pleased to welcome him back to Hamilton for this special event.

Join us on Saturday 15 February 2020 at the Kantor Family Music and Performing Arts Centre to participate in sessions based on conducting skills, repertoire, rehearsal and score study methods.

Conductors of bands, orchestras and choirs are all encouraged to participate. With a range of practical activities, this professional development opportunity will suit musicians just starting out in conducting, as well as experienced conductors wishing to refine their skills.

About the Presenter, Dr Ralph Hultgren AM PhD, MA, BA

Dr Ralph Hultgren AM is a freelance teacher, composer and conductor who has held tenured positions at Griffith University’s Queensland Conservatorium (QCGU) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He lectured in Composition, Conducting, Music Education and Instrumental Music Pedagogy.

He holds an adjunct position at QCGU supervising Doctoral and Masters candidates in Composition, Conducting and Music Education.
