2023 Eisteddfod Wrap-Up

Jun 28, 2023 | News from the Committee

The 59th Annual Hamilton Eisteddfod delivered a wonderful fortnight of performance!

This year’s event was filled with enthusiasm, as around 1,600 performers took to the stage at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre.

Results and placings from this year’s competition are available on the Results page of our website, and we commend all those who performed.

2023 Eisteddfod Snapshot:

  • 90 Music sections
  • 75 Dance sections
  • 11 Speech & Drama sections
  • Approx. 1,600 competitors
  • 66 trophies awarded
  • $18,000 awarded in prize money, trophies, medals, awards and scholarships

We are fortunate to attract adjudicators of such a high calibre to Hamilton each year, and 2023 was no exception. Ms Nadene Gilmore shared her expertise as our Music Adjudicator, bringing valuable insights and feedback to all competitors. We were pleased to welcome Mr Brian Nolan as our Dance Adjudicator, and his vast experience was appreciated by all. Ms Louise Le Nay joined us as Speech & Drama Adjudicator, sharing decades of knowledge with our competitors once again. The committee thanks each of our adjudicators for their generous involvement in our event.

We were pleased to celebrate some ‘firsts’ this year. In Music week, we introduced our new selection of Strings competitions, with great success. For our Dance competitions, we used our new barres for the first time – our committee thanks the Ray and Joyce Uebergang Foundation for their support in purchasing these. A new Theatre Sports section was introduced to the Speech & Drama competition, adding an exciting new area of improvisation.

Of course, we can’t forget another major first: we were honoured to be the first event held in the newly-refurbished Hamilton PAC. Our competitors and audiences enjoyed the new, modern seating in the auditorium! We are grateful to have the use of this quality venue.

We thank all our supporters for their involvement this year. From our competitors and audiences to our sponsors, donors and advertisers: thank you for helping make the Hamilton Eisteddfod possible.

We extend a special thank you to all our volunteers, including those who have joined us for the first time this year: we appreciate the hours of work you put in behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly at the event.

Our committee now shifts its attention to planning for a special milestone next year: the 60th Annual Hamilton Eisteddfod. We look forward to providing updates as our planning progresses!
